Shortly before Samsung announces its Galaxy Note 9 smartphone, it launches the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, a productivity tablet that can withstand the iPad Pro. The Tab S4 has a superb screen, pins for an external keyboard and even a stylus – the S Pen – supplied with the tablet.
If you have recently upgraded Samsung's latest tablet, some features may be hard to find. Here are some of our Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 tips and tricks to get you started.
How to maximize the life of the battery
It can not be denied that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 has an incredible autonomy, but sometimes it is enough to clear a little more juice. Fortunately, if you run empty, you can do some things to buy a little more time.
A simple way to extend the battery life is to minimize the length of time the screen is turned on when it is not being used. If you want to set the screen usage time, go to Settings> Display> Screen Timeout. Select the radio box for 15 or 30 seconds.
Another option to extend the battery life is to make sure Smart Stay is off. Smart Stay uses the front camera to keep the screen on when you use the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. To disable this feature, go to Settings> Advanced Features and disable the Smart stay cursor.
Finally, Samsung has an integrated option to save energy hidden in the settings. To enable this feature, go to Settings> Device Maintenance and press the Drums icon and then select Save energy.
How to enable and disable DeX
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is one of the first products to integrate DeX integration. DeX offers a PC-like experience on the S4 when you use the keyboard or connect the tablet to a monitor via an HDMI adapter.
If you purchased the optional book keyboard, the fastest way to launch DeX is simply to attach it to S4. Once connected, the DeX logo appears and the screen changes automatically.
If you do not use the keyboard, do not despair: you can manually activate and deactivate DeX. If you're on the tablet screen, just open the Quick Settings drop-down menu by swiping your finger from the top of the screen with two fingers. Swipe left (unless you have already customized the quick settings) and press the Samsung DeX icon to activate the DeX mode.
The deactivation of the DeX mode is a little different. In DeX, you'll find quick settings in the menu bar by pressing the up arrow. Once you have opened Quick Settings, tap the Samsung DeX icon and move the Samsung DeX slider to the left to return to normal tablet mode.
How to customize your home screen
Ready to make sure that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 reflects your personality? There are several options on the S4 tab that allow you to customize the display at your convenience.
First, you can change the display mode. You can choose from four screen mode options: AMOLED Photo, AMOLED Cinema, Basic Display, and Adaptive Display.
The adaptive display is one of the most interesting options because it optimizes your screen based on content and usage. To change the screen mode, go to Settings> Display> Screen Mode. Tap the option you want to activate.
You can also change the background and the bottom of the screen on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4. To change your screen and screen, press and hold the Home screen and select the desired screen. Once activated, make sure you have the apps you want to use to open and maximize the app you want to appear at the top of the screen. Press and hold recent button in the navigation bar to select the application you want to open in the lower part of the screen. To resize applications, simply drag the resize bar between applications.
When multi-window mode is enabled, a temporary menu appears with three options. The first is called App Pair Window, which allows you to save frequently used application pairs on the home screen. The second is the Pop Out Window option, which creates a small floating window in front of the main application, while the third icon replaces the position of the applications.
How to customize the navigation bar
While Samsung has made major improvements to its Samsung Experience skin over the years, it still has some oddities. One of those quirks is the navigation bar where the recent and Back the icons are reversed compared to most Android devices. Fortunately, it's easy to change.
If you want to customize the navigation bar, you must first ensure that you are in tablet mode. Once in tablet mode, go to Settings> Display> Navigation Bar. To hide the navigation bar, you can switch to the Show and hide the button. If you want to change the background color in the navigation bar, you will see a selection of color options. Finally, if you want to change the layout of the buttons on the navigation bar, press the button Button layout option and select the desired option.

What is the point of a PC interface like DeX if you can not right-click on applications and settings? Fortunately, Samsung makes it easy to right click on the S4 tab.

Resizing applications is a fairly similar gesture. To resize an app, just tap an edge of an app with your S Pen or your finger. When you see the application highlighted in blue, you can adjust the application to your preferred size.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 comes with a derisory selection of applications optimized by DeX. And while it's easy to find just about any application in the Google Play Store, finding DeX apps is a bit more difficult.
If you're looking for Dex-optimized apps, just tap the button applications icon at the bottom of your screen. When the applications the window opens, press the Apps for Samsung DeX icon at the top of the screen to open a store optimized by DeX.
How to get the most out of your S pen
Ready to take your productivity to another level? The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 comes with the S Pen Pen, a stylus that not only allows you to write directly to the tablet, but also to access different quick menu options.
Although it's easy to use the S Pen to write and draw on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, did you know that you can also take notes when the screen is off? To do this, you need to make sure that the S4 tab is in tablet mode. Once in tablet mode, simply press the S Pen button when you touch the screen.
Air Command is another feature accessible only with the S Pen. With Air Command, you can quickly access shortcuts to popular applications such as Screen Write, Live Message and the PENUP drawing application.
