Until March 2018, when Huawei launched the P20 Pro, we did not know that we needed three cameras on the back of a phone – and the jury still did not give its opinion . But triple cams quickly become a thing. The Oppo R17 Pro, Samsung Galaxy A7 and LG V40 ThinQ have launched in recent weeks all cameras of this type. In addition, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro will also feature a similar camera configuration, just like the Galaxy S10 next year. But three cameras may not be enough for Samsung because the company has just launched a new phone with four cameras at the back.
The Galaxy A9 is equipped with a 24-megapixel f1.7 main camera with autofocus "for great pictures at any time of the day", an 8-megapixel f2.4 ultra-wide angle lens , a 10 megapixel .4 telephoto autofocus f2 that can offer 2x optical zoom and a 5 megapixel f2.2 depth camera. Add to that a 24 megapixel self-focusing self-shooting shooter, and you get a phone that contains too many cameras.
What is interesting about the Galaxy A9 is that it has many decent features. We have 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB of basic storage, microSD support up to 512GB, 6.3-inch Full HD AMOLED flat screen with 2220 resolution x 1080 (2: 1 format) and a battery of 3800 mAh. However, the choice of the processor is an unimaginable gift: we turned to a mid-range phone: Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chip that supplies high-end devices.
The Galaxy A9 6GB will cost $ 599 ($ 691) in Europe and the phone will be available in three colors, including Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue and Bubblegum Pink.
Time will tell if a four-lens camera like the A9 can beat the performance of the Pixel 3's single-lens camera. But adding more cameras to phones seems a little exaggerated at the moment , and reminds us of the time when handset vendors, including Samsung would increase the number of megapixels each year, as if more megapixels equated to a better camera experience. It will be particularly interesting to compare the camera from the A9 to the upcoming A7 and Galaxy S10. Hopefully Samsung will not launch a Galaxy A11 phone with five cameras on the back next month.
