At its annual developer conference, Samsung unveiled some of its long-awaited foldable screen of Infinity Flex. During the presentation, Samsung's senior vice president of mobile marketing, Justin Dennison, said the first foldable device would come into mass production "in the coming months". As Yonhap News reported, Samsung's head of mobile phone, JK Koh, pointed out at the conference that the company would produce at least a million phone units and that, if the market reaction was good, Samsung would manufacture more.
Koh has predicted that the foldable form factor will not replace the current slab used on the vast majority of smartphones (with the exception of Samsung's Samsung W2019 clamshell). However, the leader said that the work done by his company to develop the foldable phone could lead to future models with an expandable display. He announces that Samsung will launch its first collapsible phone during the first half of next year.
At the same time, Koh admitted that Samsung would not be the first on the market with a foldable phone because the Royole FlexPai was launched on October 31st. The device, which goes from a 7.8-inch tablet to a 4-inch handset, is endowed with high-end specifications and its price is equivalent to 1,290 USD, 1,435 USD and 1,865 USD , depending on model. Until now, the phone is available for pre-orders in China only and will be available next month. But the executive was not about to praise the Royole FlexPai. Instead, he said that unlike the small Californian company that created the device, Samsung has put a little more thrill in the user experience of customers through its foldable handset.
