The Flip phone is a form factor that has been largely ignored by the rise of smartphones, with the exception of Samsung, which regularly releases new Smart Flip phones in China and other countries. And this week, the company has introduced another model of this type.
The Samsung W2019 is a new smart rocking phone running Android and featuring some high-end specifications. It has two 4.2 "1920×1080 Super AMOLED displays, one external and one internal, and is equipped with a fingerprint reader. Inside the phone are a directional pad, numeric keys, send and end keys, and Android navigation buttons such as Back and Home.
The Samsung W2019 can compete with many other leading Android products with regard to its internal equipments because the phone is endowed with a Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a microSD card slot for adding up to 512 GB of storage space. There is a dual 12MP dual camera configuration on the W2019, with the main sensor providing variable aperture with f / 1.5 and f / 2.4, while the second camera has an f / 2.4 aperture. The dual rear cameras also offer features such as optical image stabilization and 2x optical zoom.
To complete the Samsung W2019's specification list, you'll find an 8 megapixel front camera for all your selfie needs, a 3070 mAh battery, a dedicated Bixby button, USB-C and Android 8.1 Oreo. Unfortunately, the Samsung W2019 is following in the footsteps of many other recent smartphones in that it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Samsung W2019 will be available via China Unicom, pre-orders starting Nov. 11. The price of this high-end flip phone will be 18999 yuan, or about $ 2,731. Customers who purchase this luxury rocker Android phone will have access to concierge features, as well as options such as phone disinfection, reduced screen and battery replacement, and exclusive hotline service.
Like other Samsung Flip phones running Android, it is unlikely that the W2019 will be available outside of China and perhaps two other countries. It's a bit disappointing because it's a pretty interesting device, offering high-end specifications and a form factor that we do not see much in the world of smartphones. With such a high price, it seems unlikely that the W2019 would achieve good sales if sold in the United States. It is therefore understandable that Samsung does not want to bother with a larger version.
