Samsung would have opened Bixby to third-party skills

In addition to the price and the release date, one of the key questions regarding Samsung's next Galaxy Home speaker was whether the company would let other developers build their own integrations for Bixby. But we may not need to wait any longer to find out, with the the Wall Street newspaper announced that Samsung will introduce new third-party "capsules" for its smart assistant at the upcoming Samsung Developer Conference next week.

Bixby capsules sound as if they would work a lot like Alexa Skills or Google Assistant Actions – additional features that third-party developers can add to Samsung's smart wizard for their own services, allowing users to order, order pizza or to call an Uber.

Opening the door of the developers could be crucial if the Galaxy Home were to have the expected success – one of the biggest problems with Bixby so far is that it just was not very good. By developing the toolbox of what Bixby can do on all the devices offered by Samsung, this could go a long way in filling these gaps (assuming the developers present themselves).

The announcement of Bixby capsules is just one of the elements expected from Samsung's developer conference, which should also provide a quick overview of Samsung's long-awaited folding smartphone.
