Samsung's 'Galaxy X' phone rumored to arrive next month

Samsung could be revealed to be a smartphone next month, according to rumors being spread through the tech press.

It's believed to be called the Samsung Galaxy X and has been talked about – for example, since the early days of sketching for design.

Now TechRadar has picked up a tweet from Samsung's mobile promoting a developer conference.

The site reckons it's the perfect setting for Samsung to reveal its mythical folding phone.

'While it may not mean much, we're quite confident the electronics giant has teased the reveal of the Samsung Galaxy X,' the site wrote.

'It's highly likely that the handset, or at least a prototype, will be on display at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco next month.'

TechRadar also points out that this gels nicely with comments from Samsung's mobile boss DJ Koh, who said the phone will be revealed towards the end of 2018, but will not go on sale until 2019.

Koh previously told CNBC that it's 'time to deliver'.

'You can use most of the uses … on foldable status. But when you need to browse or see something, then you may need to unfold it. But even unfolded, what kind of benefit does that give compared to the tablet? If the unfolded experience is the same as the tablet, why would they (consumers) buy it ?, 'Koh told the site at the IFA tech conference in Berlin earlier this year.

We were not expecting this device until next year.

But the South Korean company has a new role in the mobile division.

According to CNBC, sales fell 20% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2018.

What's more, there's a lot of competition around at the moment. Apple has launched three new iPhones while Huawei and Google also have new phones out at the moment. OnePlus is set to launch another one pretty soon as well.

Samsung may just decide to trump them with the introduction of a new form factor. Time will tell.
