Toshihiro Nagoshi's team behind the Yakuza The series at Sega has announced its next major works. The PS4 game is calling Eyes of the judge: Shinigami no Yuigon in Japanese and bears the working title of Project Judge in English. As Yakuza, Project Judge is a realistic real world drama currently taking place in Japan, but completely reverses the stakes by making the player character a former lawyer turned detective.
While the excellent Yakuza 6 Featuring megastar actor Beat Takeshi in a key role, Sega has managed to stand out this time around. Project Judge Takuya Kimura, actor and former member of the Japanese group SMAP. "Kimutaku" is one of the most famous artists in Japan; imagine if Justin Timberlake was thrown into the Unexplored series and you will have an idea of the extent of the blow.
Project Judge was announced with a brief trailer at Sony's pre-Tokyo Game Show today, but an in camera conference that followed showed much more footage of how the game is going. The fight and the general movement across the city are extremely reminiscent Yakuza, but there seems to be a lot more variety in the main gameplay. As a detective, you have to collect a lot of clues, whether you discover them in person or fly a drone around the city. Project Judge also shares the Yakuza the penchant of the series for offset and tangential mini-games.
Perhaps the most surprising part of Project JudgeThe announcement is the date of its release: the game will be released December 13 in Japan and other Asian markets, and a demo is available on the Japanese PlayStation Store. The game will be released in the West under its definitive title next year.
