Serral is the best uncontested player of Starcraft 2

Serral won the Blizzcon 2018 emphatically. Throughout the year, he dominated the aliens circuit by winning all WCS events in which he participated. He also won the GSL vs World tournament, a weekend in Korea. He finally finished with Blizzcon 's victory as he looked dominant throughout the race. His year was one of the most impressive in the history of SC2.

I do not know how to compare it compared to other Starcraft history series because we are a little too close to the present. It is difficult to separate the different factors such as the game, the meta, the race and the context of the scenes. For example, I consider that 2013-2015 was the most difficult period of SC2 due to the inclusion of KeSPA. There is also the fact that in the past, LAN tournaments could be separated from one week, or even several days, without time to rest or train. The more I consider the way LotV has played compared to HotS and WoL, the more I think the early game and the intermediate game are so different that they may as well be completely different games from LotV.

However, in spite of all this background, it's pretty easy to say that this is the best foreign / Korean run ever seen. As for the sight test, Serral seems to be the most talented foreigner in the world. In terms of maximum competence found in LotV, it is comparable to that of INnoVation or Maru, even if the achievements are not the same. The only asterisks that you can even report are his lack of participation in the GSL and the unknown face-to-face between Serral and Maru, who have only played one best-of in a show recently. The other time, they played at WESG where Maru created the Raven meta and won 3-0.

In the case of Maru, I consider him as the player of the year. But at this point, Serral is the best undisputed player in the world, even if you assume that Maru has a good game against Serral (I think it's at worst a 50/50 personally), Maru is worse against the entire domain compared to Serral right now. Maru dropped the games to Protoss players, while Serral did not leave the games to anyone.

As for the fact that Serral did not play in GSL, it is a fair criticism. However, even if you do not play in this tournament, you can still be considered the best in the world if you play and beat all the best players in the LAN tournaments. That's precisely what TaeJa did from 2013 to 2014. So, if you thought TaeJa was the best at different times in time in 2013 and 2014 (as I do), then it's easily possible to say that Serral is the best now (which I do too). For these reasons, I consider Serral the best undisputed player in the world.
