Smart TV Company Vizio will encourage its customers to do so to spy on

According to a report, the Vizio Smart TV company will issue notifications to its customers through pop-up advertisements informing them that they have been spied on and have the right to join a class action lawsuit.

Vizio was exposed by ProPublica in 2015, when it was revealed that the company was spying on customers and collecting data for sale to advertisers.

"The secret feature recorded what, when and where its users were watching TV to sell their display data to advertisers," says Tom Guide. "Then advertisers can use this data to 'find you on your phone and other devices' and target your ads based on those habits."

As part of a $ 2.2 million deal with the FTC, Vizio would have agreed to "send a notice to all concerned smart TVs to inform consumers of what happened." and their rights to participate in the class action on September 12.

The notification, however, has been delayed, with court documents claiming: "The Parties are developing a class notice program with direct notification to the class via the VIZIO Smart TV screens, which require testing to ensure that as planned."

"The additional time requested will allow the parties to confirm that the notification program proposed in the request for preliminary approval is feasible and meets the applicable legal standards," they alleged.
