The PS4 name change is officially coming and last week, Sony started sending invitations to some participants of the PSN name change feature. While this is good news for PlayStation users who want to change their identity, users need to know some of the risks when they change their name.
If you have received an invitation to participate in the beta program of the PSN name change feature, be aware that you may be experiencing problems with your games.
Risks related to changing the PSN ID
As previously announced, Sony has clarified that the name change feature does not support all games and applications on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita. If you have decided to change your username, here are the problems you may encounter:
- Loss of access to a game you bought, including the virtual currency of the game.
- Losing saved data and other important achievements that you have acquired in a game.
- May experience connectivity issues for some games.
- Your original ID may still appear publicly
Meanwhile, Sony has already started sending invitations for the beta version of the PSN Name Change. According to the invitation letter, attendees will be able to use the upcoming feature on PS4 Firmware 6.10. Although no official release date has yet been revealed for the 6.10 update, fans are waiting to see it before the end of the year.
