Spotify launches official and essential application for Google Wear OS

You will now be able to reduce the volume of your music to 1% (when the announcements begin) without having to take out your phone, Spotify having announced the creation of a new application for Google Wear OS. That's not to say that there has never been a Spotify app for Android portable devices. A Spotify application has been launched on Android but has not been updated regularly. It has come to the point that third-party applications have been launched to give Android Wear fans a more usable Spotify experience.

The application brings most of the features of the Android application of Spotify, but in a compact and mobile format. Spotify is also associated with Fossil by preloading its software on all Fossil and Michael Kors devices. Unfortunately, the app still requires your phone to play music. So do not expect a phone-free experience that Apple Music users have on Apple Watch.

That's good news for Wear OS owners, Android smartwatches have fallen behind on their features, especially compared to the recent Apple Watch Series 4. But last month, Qualcomm hosted a press conference to announce its chip Snapdragon Wear 3100 more effective. While the chip is largely identical to its predecessor – the Snapdragon Wear 2100 from two years ago – it consumes much less energy, which extends battery life. Google has also redesigned the operating system to make it feel more like smartwatches than a miniaturized version of Android.

Although these updates are remarkable for Wear OS, there is still only one watch on the market with the Snapdragon 3100 chip, and it's expensive. But as Samsung and Huawei are differentiated by their own wearable operating systems, it is up to Google and its software partners to strengthen Wear OS before the market becomes more fragmented.

The app is not out yet, but Spotify has announced its release next week.
