State of Decay 2 has not made headlines lately, but it has steadily won players – up to four million now, according to the Undead Labs count. To celebrate, the studio has launched a new free downloadable content for the zombie survival game, which brings interesting changes to the game.
From the start, you get a new type of weapon: the crossbow. Undead Labs says that there are eight varieties of these in the game now, but that they all share one vital trait: silence. You are no longer forced to force the entire neighborhood out of a crier in the head.
Another practical feature of crossbows is that locks can be retrieved after use (which is why the crossbow is Daryl Dixon's weapon of choice in The Walking Dead). Crossbows in State of Decay 2 do not block or break you. They give you a better chance of extracting a plague sample from an infested zombie.
The Zedhunter update also adds new melee and close combat weapons, including swords. Therefore, if you are more a Michonne than a Daryl, this downloadable content will also satisfy you.
But what could be more interesting for the players of State of Decay 2, it is the modifications made to the system of capacities. You can now completely reset survivor skill sets and change basic skills specializations by reading training manuals. This is a disadvantage: the new skill will evolve more slowly than the original, but it is certainly a way to get around situations where your outpost could be ruined due to lack of personnel with a specific skill.
This is a very nice improvement in the quality of life itself, but it's more: Undead Labs has added six "weird" skills, each giving a certain bonus to your group or community of survivors.
They also added a brand new type of item called "plague consumables". They give your survivors superhuman abilities such as stealth or night vision, but they are a poison to humans and the cost of their use leads to infection.
Zedhunter is available now, and Undead Labs says the new content will work with existing backups.
