You choose the scene before your character

In a move that will surely lead to new strategies, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the scene is chosen before choosing your fighter. It is obvious that some stages improve better for some sets of movements. So it's an interesting change.

Sometimes you play multiple stages in a match

One of the biggest novelties of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate called Stage Morph. Throughout a match, one stage can literally turn into another, which can completely change the game. Many steps from Super Smash Bros. already undergoing changes throughout a fight, so it is only the next stage of this evolution.

New fighting mechanics

Besides the jump from the original to MeleeSuper Smash Bros. has largely preserved its basic mechanics. While professional players will probably say that there are huge differences between each entry, the casual player (the biggest audience) probably does not notice too much change between iterations. That said, some new and modified mechanics come back to Melee, a game that still retains today a huge success on the competitive stage. Until now, these are the new game features we know.

  • The damage increased in 1v1.
  • You can dodge in specific directions (coming back from Melee).
  • You can attack by climbing ladders.
  • Small jumps allow you to perform aerial attacks while your opponents are on the ground.
  • Load attacks can be launched in flight.
  • Press A and B simultaneously to launch a smash attack.
  • You can get a "perfect shield" by releasing the shield button. Perfect shields initiate counter-attacks.
  • Final Smash attacks have shorter animations.
  • The assistance trophies can be damaged and even eliminated from the field.

New game modes

Although we imagine that most Smash players are content with the classic mode (the unique glove for a player) and standard or opposite modes, several new modes Smash Bros. Ultimate.

  • Striking the squad: A battle mode configured in 3v3 or 5v5. Each player chooses a group of fighters to face during a battle by elimination. The last standing fighter wins.
  • Tournament: A tournament mode with support that can support up to 32 participants.
  • Demolish: A series of battles in which you must choose a new fighter each turn.
  • Training: A neat mode that helps you learn the best practices to succeed Smash.

There are pretty new items

Part of the fun of Smash Bros. comes from experimenting with the range of items that fall on the battlefield throughout a fight. While you can expect to see plenty of familiar objects, a handful of new items have also been revealed.

  • Banana Gun
  • Death of the fake (Castlevania)
  • A magical staff
  • A bullet (false) Smash that kills you on contact
  • New Pokémon: Mimikyu, Marshadow, Idem, Lunala, Pykumuku
  • Ramblin 'Evil Mushroom (from Earthbound)
  • Bombardier (from Kirby)
  • Healing field

gamecube wii u controller adapter for

The GameCube controller has been kept relevant only because of its popularity within the Smash community. Like the previous two iterations, you'll be able to use GameCube controllers to play Ultimate. You will need a USB adapter to do it, but you can easily find one on Amazon for under $ 20. If you already have the Wii U GameCube adapter, it will work fine.

All GameCube controllers work with the adapter, but if you need one (or four), Nintendo releases a new one Super Smash Bros. UltimateGameCube brand controller for $ 30.

'Smash Bros. Ultimate 'supports up to eight players

You can play with up to eight players locally (and probably online) in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Pro controllers, GameCube and Joy-Con controllers can be used to play.

We do not like online mode very much

Nintendo has not yet described the online modes, but it is assumed that it will require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription ($ 20 per year).

Will there be downloadable content?

Nintendo has not confirmed if Smash Bros. Ultimate will have any post-launch DLC. The base game already has more fighters and stages than ever before, so if the downloadable content exists, it probably will not come soon after the launch.
