Telltale Games, the studio behind The dead who walk video game, announced the massive layoff of almost all its employees last week, with several projects canceled and only Minecraft: Fashion History on the right track to be completed. It appeared that The Walking Dead: the final season would be a victim of this decision, but Telltale announced plans to go ahead without the original development team.
In a report posted on Twitter, the studio said it was discussing with "multiple potential partners" who are interested in helping to complete the two remaining episodes of The dead who walk.
"Although we can not make any promises today, we are actively working on a solution that will allow episodes 3 and 4 to be completed and published in one form or another," the statement said.
It remains to be seen how Telltale plans to recover the remaining episodes after giving up all those who worked on the project. Many critics challenged the decision to move forward with definitive episodes, as employees with many jobs were not compensated. Narrative Designer Emily Grace Buck elaborated on the situation, saying that new employees were recruited as early as last week and that many are not eligible for unemployment because they were hired as entrepreneurs.
According to Variety, the sudden shutdown was the result of Lionsgate's last-minute decision to obtain financing. The two companies would have collaborated on a "super show" that would combine elements of video games of narration and live-action.
"Unfortunately, everyone was so focused on what was needed for the company to continue to function that when the last potential partner withdrew, there were no other options," says Dan Connors, co founder of Telltale.
