We are perhaps at the heart of the sedanocalypse, but make no mistake, the 3 Series remains vital to BMW and its results. And although it faces more and more competition each year and is growing over the years, it is likely to remain the benchmark for sport sedans. Here is the new generation of series 3 that will lead this famous model in the future.

First: the car is expected to officially debut this week before the World Car Show (and we have interviews with BMW engineers on how they have helped to improve the behavior), Blog, among others. Here's a preview before you're supposed to see it.

Secondly: yes, this is a brand new car, although it does not look at first sight. This is the G20 Series 3, based on the same scalable modular platform that underpins the latest Series 5 and 7 (and the new Toyota Supra, hilarious). It would have more interior space than the outgoing car while lightening its weight. .

From the start, we get a more aggressive front bumper and offset headlamps that give it a cleaner overall look than the old car, as well as the larger 5 and 7. The famous Hofmeister fold on the C pillar is more angular it's been a while, a nice change. Beyond that, it is very clearly a series 3, plus an evolution of conception that the revolution. I like that. Do not ruin what's broken, and all that.

The taillights are also totally different. I also love the way these have taken shape.

There are also nice updates, including a full digital dashboard for the first time, a more central touch screen, new steering wheel controls and, oddly enough, no shift lever on some models shown here. What does it mean? And where is the manual?

The new 3 will be launched with a suite of four and six cylinder turbo engines. More details and photos coming this week for sure.
