The Summer Games Finished The 2018 Quick is officially over. The annual charity run marathon has allowed Doctor's Without Borders to raise more than $ 2 million and has benefited from more than 168 hours of speedruns. If you were not able to tune in, it's a complete week of hallucinating glitches and intense head-to-head races. But with streaming 24 hours a day, it's almost impossible to see everything.
That's why we have rounded up our favorite PC speedruns of Summer Games Done Quick 2018. This is a relatively new listing compared to the selection of last year. indie shots like Cuphead and Celeste. But all these races are remarkable in their own way.
Cuphead (0:50:14)
This race is an example of Quick Completed Quick Speedrun Games at its absolute best: An incredibly challenging game, an extremely skilled player , and an excellent team of couch commentators. & # 39; TheMexicanRunner & # 39; keeps his cool in each of Cuphead's incredibly difficult boss battles, but I especially like the silly voices that he uses when he reads a dialogue. His cast of couch commentators is just as much fun to listen to because of their impressive knowledge of the game. Not only do they explain the techniques at each stage of the race, but they are full of questions about the development of Cuphead, artstyle, and more. . It's just a beautiful race.
Celeste (0:36:26)
SGDQ 2018 was dominated by indie hard-as-nails players, but this head-to-head race de Celeste is a remarkable presentation of the control of the video game by his two runners. This is not really a competition, as the TGH rider has clearly the upper hand, but watching both at the same time in the intimidating ride of Celeste filled with levels full of traps is exhilarating. Some of the jumps made by each runner must be perfect to the nearest pixel, which is not an easy task when you are already blitzing the levels at this rate. It's indicative of the high level of skill that Celeste requires that even the nailing of some of these jumps be impressive during the second and third tests.
Enter the Gungeon (0:18:08)
At every Quick Finished event, there is always a race where everything goes to hell despite the best attempts of the runner. . And this year, there is no one who has failed more spectacularly than Teddyras – although it is not his fault. The RNG gods of Enter the Gungeon had an ax to teddyras, as evidenced by the mountain of bad luck that has harassed it from the beginning. Of course, he makes a few mistakes here and there, but not once does Teddyras get a good weapon drop that is so crucial to surviving the Gungeon's hard floors. Keep in mind that unlike most games, dying in Enter the Gungeon means having to start over from the beginning. When this happens finally right next to the final boss, it's heartbreaking. Fortunately Teddyras gets another shot, and things are much better the second time.
TASbot plays Celeste (0:34:19)
But Steven, do you say, do not you just recommend a Celeste speedrun? Yes I did it. But you know what better than watching two humans trying to beat Celeste? Watching a robot friggin defeated Celeste. That's what TASBot is, a speedrun assisted by a tool where every button input is meticulously written beforehand and then executed in real time. Of course, no human can match the accuracy of a robot, but that is what makes TAS special. With Celeste's frantic pace and complicated level design, TASBot is able to flare through every area with remarkable speed. It took months for DevilSquirrel to program TASBot to run each level, finding the optimal path to create the ideal, superhuman speedrun.
Borderlands: The Pre-Suite (1:56:46)
I love this race for a lot of reasons, especially Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel does not feel like a remarkable game watching a speedrun of. Gearbox 's loot is not exactly what comes to mind when I think of great speedrun games, but the commentary of Amyrlinn and Shockwve is so funny. Throughout the Pre-Sequel, both runners abuse a ton of glitches like tricking objects and sneaking through walls, but this is all the more enjoyable by their irreverent cries to the world of Borderlands and their funny quips.
Tomb Raider (1:13:56)
If you are not a fan of the bombastic commentary that often accompanies Games Done Quick runs, this race Tomb Raider is for you. Beckski93 effortlessly performs many complicated Tomb Raider nuggets, but I really appreciate his casual comment, which contrasts nicely with the sometimes abrasive energy of other runners. There are also a lot of fun glitches to watch, like the one that bears the name of the QWOP game because of the way it breaks Lara's animation to help it chirp across surfaces.
FEAR (1:03:24)
The 2005 Maxylobes race is great because it's always fun to see such scary games unarmed by the speedrunners. FEAR has terrified me the first time I played it, but watching Maxy rush through the levels regardless of the tense atmosphere or the jumps are so ridiculous. He also kills entire squads of soldiers by rushing and systematically beating everyone in the head, which is ridiculous for his own reasons. I would have liked to know how much the punch was strong when I played for the first time.
