As was revealed at the opening ceremony of the 2018 BlizzCon, Overwatch has a new character: Ashe. Based on what we've seen so far, the leader of the Deadlock gang will mix the existing game rhythms in a major way. Following this announcement, Blizzard organized the Overwatch: What's Next panel and detailed the details, including its history, design, creative philosophy and game.
During the panel, Michael Chu, editor of Overwatch, explained that Ashe – like most other villains in the game – came from a rich and privileged background. Her parents were CEO coaches and she had everything she could dream of. However, a chance encounter with McCree opened his eyes to the criminal world. Together, they committed crimes and Ashe proved to be gifted in this area, finally deciding to stand out in the world of wickedness.
With McCree and two other unnamed personalities, she founded the Deadlock gang. They made great efforts to make a name for themselves while they were trying to write their names in the wild American West legend. Ashe's background and education also allowed him to attend his parents' classes and use them to organize the gangs so that they work better and effectively establish a criminal fraternity. B.O.B (Big Omnic Butler / Bodyguard) is a company character who is always at her side and who also influences the way she plays.
Geoff Goodman, the chief designer, said they wanted another gun-oriented character in the game. This reflection defined how Ashe plays. Ashe's main weapon is called "Viper" and it's a levered rifle with two firing modes. In main shooting mode, he quickly throws balls. However, in the alternative firing mode, it is a bit slower because Ashe looks at a holographic sight for precision shooting. In this mode, the Viper must be reloaded after each shot, but when shooting, the players will have a lot of control because the recoil is relatively small.
In terms of abilities, the Coach Gun is a secondary weapon resembling a shotgun that does a reasonable amount of damage, but is primarily used to create a distance. At impact, Ashe and her target are repulsed, which will be very handy for getting rid of a raging Winston or a Reinhardt charge. In these situations, you can also use it to project enemies into the air, then use the Juggle state to trigger precise shots with the help of the Viper.
His next power is dynamite, which does a lot of damage but takes a long time to explode. Indeed, its fuse must choke completely before lighting the explosives. However, by pulling the hand, the detonation can be forced, although it naturally requires a firm hand.
His ultimate ability is something completely new to Overwatch: a secondary character for Ashe. When she appears in her ultimate capacity, B.O.B jumps behind her and runs straight ahead. The first character with which he connects is crushed in the air, while the other characters in the boot zone will also be eliminated. Although players can use his abilities to escape, if they are hit, they have no air control, which leaves them ready to be caught by Ashe or other characters.
B.O.B will eventually stop moving forward and trigger a hail of gunfire. It is interesting to note that B.O.B works almost like a second character in that it can be healed, improved and attenuated like everyone else. This means that, for example, an Ana can Nano Boost to increase her damage. If he manages to sneak into the bottom line of an enemy team, he could be devastating. Therefore, when he will appear, he is very destined to be a high priority target.
Ashe was revealed through a new animated short called "Meeting". As you may have guessed, the film unites Ashe and McCree and explores part of their story before everything falls into chaos. There are many other characters in the short film that could be new characters in their own right, in Blizzard 's own words, but for the moment, we have the deadly Deadlock gang leader. Watch Ashe 's gameplay video to see more of it in action.
