When Apple unveiled Wednesday the new iPhone XR at its Cupertino Gather Round event, one aspect of the phone's specifications stood out. Phil Schiller said on stage that the XR would have a battery life of 1.5 hours more than the iPhone 8 Plus. This would make the iPhone the most durable ever.
The talk time of the iPhone XR is 25 hours, the Internet use up to 15 hours, video playback (wireless) up to 16 hours and the audio playback (wireless) up to 65 hours.
In comparison, the iPhone XS has a talk time of up to 20 hours and the Internet up to 12 hours, while the iPhone XS Max requires 25 hours of talk time, but only 13 hours Internet time.
These numbers, however, eclipse the specifications listed for older iPhones.
IPhone battery life through the story
Apple claimed a large number of battery life numbers when launching the iPhone during its history. Of course, the life of the battery at launch and a year or two later is often very different and can also vary enormously from one iPhone to another.
At the launch of the original iPhone in 2007, Apple claimed "8 hours of talk, 6 hours of internet use, 7 hours of video playback or 24 hours of audio playback" . This device offers a 6-hour battery life for Internet use over 3G and 10 hours over Wi-Fi, with 10 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio playback.
Apple's iPhone 4S, in 2011, recorded up to 8 hours of talk on 3G and up to 14 hours in 2G, while offering up to 6 hours of talk time. Use of the internet in 3G and up to 9 hours in Wi-Fi. The playback times, like its predecessor, were 10 hours for video and 40 hours for audio .

When the 2017 models arrived, Apple said the life of the battery in the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus was "about the same" as the 7 and 7 Plus.
But the iPhone X announced that its battery would last "up to 2 hours longer than the iPhone 7". This meant up to 21 hours of talk time, up to 12 hours of internet use, and 13 and 60 hours of video and audio playback respectively.
The life of a battery
The battery life, once again, is not always up to its promises, especially since an appliance is aging. While battery life has sometimes taken precedence over other aesthetic and functional considerations of Apple's history, it is certainly important to everyday customers.
And, that is also something that, slowly, Apple has found a way to improve over time.
