The Bison Chevy Colorado ZR2 is a factory-built off-road adventure truck

Chevy and American Expedition Vehicles have teamed up for the new Colorado flavor that is off the beaten track.

Off-road enthusiasts know American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), a company known for its rugged all-terrain vehicle parts and accessories. Now, AEV has finally entered into a partnership with Chevrolet for a new unique product, the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison. The all-terrain truck is another blow to the prow of Ford and its Ranger Raptor, which is on sale in Asia and where Europe remains to be confirmed for the US market.

The Bison adds robustness to the appearance and performance of the ZR2, first robust. This truck has five additional hot-stamped Boron steel skid plates that protect the oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case and front and rear engine lock differentials. The front and rear bumpers designed by AEV are also new.

"We've been following Colorado since it was launched, and the ZR2 really caught our attention," says Dave Harriton, founder and president of AEV. "As this is the first Chevrolet vehicle to have AEV treated, we wanted to do something special with the industry's first use of hot-stamped boron steel. We also expect Colorado drivers to love the increased robustness of our front and rear bumpers on the ZR2 Bison. "

Instead of the classic logo on the bow tie on the grille, you will find large characters "CHEVROLET". The front bumper includes a location to add a winch, while the rear bumper has built-in recovery hooks in case the situation becomes hairy. The 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac off-road tires wrap around 17-inch exclusive bison rims.

pictureThe name of Bison probably comes from the AEV logo, which represents the bovine creature. Bison stickers on the sides of the bed and a "AEV Bison" badge on the hatchback warn other ATV enthusiasts that this truck is a bargain. Inside, you'll find embroidered AEV logos on the floor and front head restraints.

While AEV adds a host of accessories to the ZR2, the truck's standard off-road features remain. The Bison comes with front and rear locking electronic differentials, Multimatic DSSV shock absorbers, off-road slip protection, cast iron control arms and an Autotrac transfer case. The Bison also features the modified rear axle of the ZR2 and a gear ratio of 3.42. The suspension remains unchanged, with the same two-inch lift on the Colorado ZR1. The Bison also keeps the 3.5-inch width at the front and back.

pictureThe Bison retains the 3.6-liter V6 transmission of the ZR2 and the eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2.8-liter turbo diesel and six-speed automatic transmission are optional. Bison is available in twin and extended cab configurations and in long and short beds. Chevy includes a complete factory limited warranty.

The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 2019 will go on sale in January. Chevy has not published any price information; however, the ZR2 starts at $ 42,290 (including the destination). Expect a drop in prices for the Bison, which is now the average off-road pickup par excellence for fans. Maybe this will eventually cajole Ford to bring the Raptor Ranger onto American roads.
