The launch of a OnePlus phone would not have happened before the OnePlus management team confirmed some of the details and thinking they undertook prior to the official launch. With the OnePlus 6T expected in the coming weeks, will the Shenzhen-based company follow the same pattern?

Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, explained to Lynn La de Cnet the two key decisions that shaped the OnePlus 6T and will guide the conversation around the new device; the addition of the built-in fingerprint reader and the removal of the 3.5mm stereo headphone jack. Lau presents the two material characteristics as closely related:
One of the reasons that OnePlus has cut the headphone jack has been to leave room for the built-in fingerprint sensor, which the company has dubbed Screen Unlock. By relocating the physical sensor located at the back of the phone under the screen, the fingerprint reader occupies an essential space inside, near the bottom of the phone.
… For those who are unhappy that the OnePlus 6T will not take hold, Lau thinks the tradeoffs are worth it. "After experimenting with unlocking the screen, you will fall in love with it," he said. "[You’ll] realize that it is the experience you wanted. "
I find it oddly disappointing. Lau will be aware of the marketing volume created by OnePlus to promote its Face Unlock system that debuted with the OnePlus 5T. OnePlus has already unlocked its handsets quickly and conveniently and has let everyone know it. The transition from the 6T to the displayed fingerprint is probably a marginal gain compared to the use of the forward-facing fingerprint sensor on the main button (on the OnePlus 5) or the rear-mounted sensor (on 5T and 6), and does not affect facial recognition.
And to get this marginal gain, the handset must lose a feature that many people cherished. While the hardware requirements seem to be mutually exclusive, I'm not sure it's the best marketing strategy to say, "you'll appreciate a lot more unlocking your phone than missing the headphone jack."
It sounds like a rather awkward attempt at a sleigh.

Since the launch of the first handset, OnePlus' has used the phrase "Never Settle" as a unifying call, pointing out that there was no compromise with its hardware. Anyone involved in making smartphones knows that there are tradeoffs at each junction and that you have to adjust if you want to achieve a certain price, get some design functionality or incorporate a new technology.
By linking the inclusion of the built-in fingerprint reader to the removal of the headphone jack, Lau clearly confirmed that a compromise had been made. OnePlus as a company decided to agree on a project, to offer a great technology while removing a standard functionality and appreciated … a feature that, less than six months ago, was considered a major selling point.
