The co-founders of Instagram resign

No specific reason has been given for resignations, but for the two founders to leave at the same time without too much notice, relations can be tense with Facebook's management. Or are they just bored?

Instagram on iPhone

Instagram has only been around for eight years, with co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger launching the social sharing photo network exclusively for iOS at the end of 2010. Since then, the service has supported more than a billion users speaking 36 languages. Along the way, Facebook has bought $ 1 billion in cash and stock. Systrom and Krieger are leaving now.

In a statement posted on the Instagram information center, Systrom is highlighting the massive growth of Instagram so far. What was a company employing 13 people has grown to over a thousand, but that 's the sudden and surprising end of the duo that triggered everything and we wondered why.

The statement gives little more than to suggest that things were not going well or that the co-founders simply do not like working in such a big company. They are "ready for our next chapter" and want to "re-explore our curiosity and creativity". They clearly want to build something new, but it "requires us to take a step back."

Systrom and Krieger are grateful for Instagram and Facebook and are excited about the future of both social networks. There is no mention of people on Facebook, especially Mark Zuckerberg is not referenced at all. Should we read something about it?

As The New York Times notes that the co-founders informed Facebook of their decision to leave yesterday and will leave in a few weeks. Zuckerberg simply wished them the best for the future and "can not wait to see what they are going to build". Who knows, maybe he will buy what it is, too. For now, his main concern will be finding someone else to manage Instagram, as well as Systrom and Krieger.
