The Discord game store is now open

The Discord gaming store, open to a group of Canadians in August, is now available to everyone as the global beta version of the Nitro Store and Subscription Service has started today. The initial range of games available for purchase is a small selection of titles including Frostpunk, Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Stered, Subnautica and Pillars of Eternity 2, as well as a handful of "First on Discord" games that are not available on other platforms.

"Discord has always been getting people around games, now we bring games to people with our selected gaming store and our Nitro gaming subscription service," said Discord's co-founder and CEO Jason. Lemon. "We're really excited to help exceptional developers market their games and help players find new and interesting content."

The combination of a multi-function chat platform with an online store is a bit cumbersome (for me at least), but the pages of the shop themselves are clearly presented, with the usual array of 39, information – a detailed description, breakdowns by points. features, system configuration, etc. – and some nice extras, such as an introductory text "why you might like it" and a quote "Choice of staff". The initial selection of games is tiny, but on the other hand, you do not have to delve into a mountain of things like Maybe Drinking. Russian style or Boobserman to find something you really want to play.

Discord's Nitro program will work as on Origin Access: for $ 10 per month, subscribers will have on-demand access to a selection of more than 60 games. Discord said that new games would be added "at a steady pace to keep the Nitro library fresh and growing," and that some games could be subject to a rotation at the expiration of the contracts , backup data in the cloud would be retained. A Nitro Classic option, with animated avatars, selectable tags, larger file download limit (50 MB instead of 8 MB) and other features (everything but games, in other words) is also available for $ 5 a month.

A strange thing about Nitro is that most games accessible through the service are not available for purchase through the Discord Store. I have asked if they would eventually be included in the list of stores and I will let you know if I will receive an answer.

Discord has also launched the universal game launcher tab announced at the same time as the Discord Store. The option "Library" is available from the "Home" link of the Discord application, but it seems a bit risky: the import process was quick and easy, but it was not easy. has failed to recover some of my games, including those of Bard Tale 4, The Tiny Bang Story, and you have to build a boat. It is in beta, however, there are some things to consider. We will take a closer look at the great update, including the store, what it does and how to use it, coming soon.
