Fallout 76 can be an online survival RPG, but you can always count on one main campaign. Even if it's not a one-player game and you can not play it offline, you do not need to move on. Keep in mind that every human character you see is a real person, but the world still has a lot of creatures controlled by AI.
Fallout 76The campaign is based on a transmission from a supervisor. Todd Howard, director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, said in an interview with Game Informer:
She left secret instructions for you, and that's the starting point for what we call the main quest. In the end, you launch nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are a game system, but they are also part of the main story.
Despite the assurance of Bethesda, many fans are wary of Fall switch to multiplayer. Pete Hines, Senior Vice President of Bethesda Global Marketing and Communications, explained what it was like to travel alone in a multi-player desert:
I know [multiplayer] was a concern in our community, and that worried me because I play a lot of solo [in games]… With my current character, my plan was: "I leave the safe and go left. I have not been there before and I do not know what is going on there. Let's see what happens. I came across super mutants and I fought with them, did some quests and found this unique place outside of a pharmaceutical factory that seemed like a great place for a camp. There was a nice view from the top of a mountain. I thought that few people could see me up there. I used this base camp to do quests.
If this style of play works well after Fallout 76 launches, players may not be stuck simply playing another MMO. Bethesda claims that it aims to surprise us all with a twist on the formula. Hopefully the structures he will put in place will create a fun gaming experience for everyone.
