The floating island of Fortnite is moving and Kevin will grow

On Fortnite's Battle Royale map, the island at the center of Lake Loot began Season 6 as it took off in a swirling whirlpool.

As you will remember in Season 5, a vast and mysterious purple cube appeared and began to make its way around the map, hitting runes on the ground wherever it settled. The cube, which also had gravity deformation properties, finally made its way to Loot Lake and rolled into it, turning the lake into an inflatable purple mass of extraterrestrial rubber.

At the time, many players thought that the cube dissolved in the water, but it is not the case: it is the cube that raised the island in the air. The cube itself – now lovingly named Kevin for the community of players – is visible beneath the mass of earth and rock that holds the island.

Now, it seems like Kevin is moving again. But we do not know exactly where Kevin and the floating island are going, or even where they are at a given moment. Players reported seeing the island appear above Salty Springs and south of Retail Row, although many believe that a bug causes the island to display incorrectly on the game map.

Here is a picture of the island hovering over one of the runes left by the cube in Season 5.

Meanwhile, a Fortnite-reviewed datamine: Battle Royale Leaks suggests that Kevin will grow during this season. A subfolder called "CubeGrowth" appeared in the game data, and it seems very likely that means, well, that cubes growth will occur.

What does all this mean? Well, nobody knows for sure, and that's what makes it fun. Some players have suggested that Kevin retrace the course of the cube during Season 5, stopping on each of the runes he left behind. Perhaps pulling energy from each of these factors will fuel its expansion during the season.

In any case, Fortnite Season 6 is going well and we will keep you up to date on weekly developments and challenges as we go along.
