The Ford GT supercar recalled for the risk of fire from the rear wing

Ford is reminiscent of its 647 horsepower GT supercar because of a potentially lethal fire hazard.

The valves that control the rear fender can leak fluid on the exhaust pipes and cause a fire.

The recall concerns the 176 cars built between December 20, 2016 and July 31, 2018, a good portion of the 191 cars manufactured up to now.

Car and driver reports that the problem comes from the hydraulically controlled rear wing that can go up and down in the blink of an eye and that also serves as an air brake during strong decelerations.

Ford will recover the cars and install hydraulic check valves, filters and O-rings on cars that do not have them, and install a software update to better regulate the hydraulic pressure applied to the fenders.

Only 500 cars will be produced for 2017 and 2018, each of them being sold only on request. Ford will soon open the next cycle applications for another two years of production. We expect some non-inflammatory features to be updated.

A Ford GT burned last June in Germany, and so far this is the only car lost to this problem. The driver was not injured in the incident.
