Ford has not yet confirmed its performance specifications for the Shelby GT500. An apparent leak at the end of August announced that the car would be powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8, with 720 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. This power is supposed to go back through a carbon fiber drive shaft, although the transmission between the two is disputed by various sources. Some say the GT500 will use the same six-speed Tremec gearbox as the last GT500, while others say a seven-clutch automatic transmission will occupy the transmission tunnel.
It is also uncertain for now whether Ford will manufacture a GT500R identical to the GT350 and its own R variant, which swings the optional carbon fiber rims onto the rest of the modern sports car market. The 797 horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, which went into production in early October, is expected to be the closest competitor to the GT500.
The reader contacted Ford for confirmation that the car above is the GT500, but the automaker declined to comment, citing its policy not to comment on future products.
