It seems that Samsung is actually delivering on its promise to bring new, and possibly crazy, new features to its Galaxy A series. The Galaxy A7 debuted with the first triple cameras from Samsung and the Galaxy A9 (the A9 in China) became his first quad-camera phone. Less sensational, the Galaxy A6s, a Chinese exclusive, is the first Samsung phone not manufactured by Samsung. Now another Chinese-only phone could turn his head and raise his eyebrows. Samsung has just teased the Galaxy A8s, which could be its first phone with a camera under the screen.
Either that or he would have a hole for the camera before. The teaser image of the Ice universe, source of leak, tweeted and deleted (preserved by SamMobile, fortunately) showed a Galaxy A8 fully screen. Now, we know that companies exaggerate their marketing. But take for granted that this is close to reality, which opens the way to two equally interesting possibilities.
The first could come from the Ice universe, which tweeted a few days ago about an upcoming 2019 phone featuring an "open hole display camera technology". One would normally be perplexed to drill a hole just for a camera, especially a camera that may appear to be in different places on the phone.
The other, more interesting, possibility is that the Galaxy A8 is the first example of Samsung's previous leak of Under Panel Sensor tech technology or UPS. This would allow Samsung to place the camera under the screen and, if XDA was correct, the screen could become transparent just above the camera if needed. This could explain the different positions in the escape of the Ice universe.
If that is the case, this could be one more reason to be excited about the Galaxy A8, even though it will never be available outside of China. This particular technology is also planned for the Galaxy S10 or the Galaxy Note 10, so its appearance on the mid-range model could be a beta test of this type.
