The Galaxy S10 can have a camera cutout in its screen
Samsung has recently unveiled four new models of Infinity Display – two with a notch, one with a "cutting" camera, and the last completely transparent. Called 'New Infinity', this clutter-free screen did not talk much about Samsung on stage, but its appearance may well be the mobile display technology of the future.
We recently showed you what the Samsung Galaxy S10 might look like if it used New Infinity technology and if its selfie camera was placed under the billboard. It would be the pinnacle of the design without a bezel in solid state and would eliminate the need for unsightly notches. However, as is generally the case with emerging technologies, there is a transition period.
According to the reliable technician Evan Blass, better known as @evleaks, the Samsung Galaxy S10 will not use the "New Infinity" screen, but rather the "Infinity-O", with a camera cutout. Given Blass's track record, we may have to wait a little longer for a sliderless phone with a truly goggle-free design.
Some preliminary details on the Galaxy S10:
– Cutting the selfie camera in the "Punch Hole" style (sounds like the Infinity-O display).
– Ultrasonic SPF integrated in the screen
– Three rear cameras (standard / wide / TV)
– A user interface on Android Pie– Evan Blass (@evleaks) November 13, 2018
But that does not mean that the Infinity-O is so bad. We have already spoken at length about the notch, and this is not a secret, it is the most controversial mobile design function of last year. So it is easy to see why many people would not be delighted with a real hole in the screen. from their smartphone of over a thousand dollars. However, the cut is at least better as it occupies less screen.
In addition, if Samsung retains the size of the front camera to that of the Galaxy S9, it would not be too shocking a hole punch on the giant screen of the Galaxy S10. Heck, the Galaxy S10 + would have two front cameras, which would mean a larger cut, and it still would not be a big problem on the alleged 6.44-inch screen.
If the selfie camera is the same size as the Galaxy S9, it should not be too intrusive.
But this raises another question: where should the hit hole be? In one of the corners or smack-dab in the middle?
The image that Samsung showed when announcing the Infinity-O showed the cutout in the upper-left corner of the screen. However, this is probably only for illustration purposes and the hole could be in different places, for example at the corner or in the center.
One of the most subtle changes in Samsung's upcoming major overhaul, dubbed One UI (One UI), is the clock in the notification bar, which is moved to the upper left corner, leaving the the central area strangely empty. Although this can not be considered irrefutable proof that the camera cutout on the Galaxy S10 will be in the center, UI updates made in the past have revealed material changes ahead.
Whatever it is, if the Samsung Galaxy S10 is going to have a hole in the display, where should it be – in one of the corners or in the center? Vote below! Also tell us what you think is best – a camera notch or cutout?
