Google's artificial intelligence guru, Li Fei-Fei, will leave the search giant and return to his professorship at Stanford, Monday announced Google Cloud CEO Diane Greene.
The renowned AI researcher will be replaced by Carnegie Mellon University's Dean of Computer Science and former Google staff member Andrew Moore.
Greene said Li's departure was still planned, and added that Li would continue to serve as Google Cloud's advisor for artificial intelligence and machine learning.
During his time with the search giant, Li "built a great team and … innovated and [did] A great job accelerating the adoption of AI and ML by Google Cloud developers and customers, "Greene wrote in his post. open an AI lab in Beijing, China.
Li's trip with Google has not always been easy. The controversy with Project Maven involved the AI team under fire for working with the Pentagon on AI and image recognition technology that could be used for drone strikes.
