In preparation for the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Jean-Luc has prepared a "History Of …" for the Black Ops series. In the video above, it covers the highlights of the series since its debut in 2010.

Each Call of Duty: Black Ops game was developed by Treyarch, who also worked on Call of Duty 2: Big Red One in 2005, Call of Duty 3 in 2006 and Call of Duty: World at War in 2008. The Call of Duty Original Duty: Black Ops took place during the Cold War in the 1960s, putting you in the shoes of two CIA agents: Alex Mason and Frank Woods. Call of Duty 2012: Black Ops 2 moved the series in the near future, after Alex's son, David Mason, in 2025, while returning to the 1980s to continue the story of Alex and Frank. Call of Duty 2015: The Black Ops 3 have consolidated the position of the series in the future in 2065. The Call of Duty of 2018: Black Ops 4 maintains the framework of the end of the 21st century.

Every Black Ops game has influenced the franchise in its own way. Black Ops was the first game in the main series to present playable protagonists who speak during the game, instead of talking only during cutscenes. Black Ops 2 has introduced two new variants – Grief and Turned – into the popular Zombies mode of Call of Duty. Activision and PlayStation formed a partnership just before the release of Black Ops 3, calling it the first Call of Duty game where the post-launch DLC was launched on Sony hardware before ending up on Xbox and PC. Black Ops 4 presents Blackout at Call of Duty, the franchise's first battle game mode.

Even though the game is not out yet, we took advantage of Black Ops 4. The first beta version of the game allowed us to try the 10 operators of Black Ops 4, as well as the new gadgets, weapons and Heist mode. In the second beta, we played on the largest Call of Duty card to date in massive Royal Battle matches. As we played, we learned six new things about Blackout. We appreciated how Treyarch has structured the new Call of Duty mode so that it fits perfectly with the Fortnite Battlegrounds offer: Battle Royale and PlayerUnknown.
