The Sydney Apple Store is normally a hive of activity on the day of the launch of the iPhone, but in the hour before the opening of the sales of the first day of the iPhone XR, the usual queues were nowhere.

The latest iPhone is on sale around the world, but people stay at home.

Australian Apple Stores opened Friday for the first day of sales of the iPhone XR, and although Apple has proposed something a little different in previous launches – more colors, arguably the best for your money since the iPhone for years – waiting lines were visible nowhere.

At the Sydney Store, in the heart of the city, the store was quiet an hour before the doors opened. Where before (as recently as the launch of the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max last month), crowds have been queuing up to buy the latest phone for free. ; Apple. Only a handful of people were waiting.

According to store staff, most customers would come to pre-order pre-set hours all day (a system that Apple had also set up for its previous launches).

It could also be that the queue is becoming less necessary. The waiting times for those who order the iPhone XR online in the United States are three to five days, instead of weeks already recorded during certain launches. It could be that the colorful and cheaper iPhone XR attracts people looking to upgrade a 3 year old model or who are looking for a cheaper phone for their kids. This could also be why the YouTube iPhone unpackers (and those who buy the phone to quickly return it) were not found.

The latest Apple iPhone may have followed the iPhone XS, which went on sale in September, but it still offers Apple fans a way to switch from one new iPhone to another without having to Exceed the $ 1,000 threshold for the iPhone XS (or stretch their hands and budgets for the largest iPhone XS Max, starting at $ 1,099).

And while at the launch of the iPhone XS, buyers were looking for premium features like the Super Retina display and the two 12 megapixel rear cameras, the iPhone XR still has its own points of sale. Scott Stein, of CNET, explains that the XR still offers most of the features of the iPhone X and XS, including excellent widescreen, fast performance, face recognition and wireless charging, as well that a camera almost as powerful as the iPhone XS.

But despite the positive reviews and the lower price, this may not have been enough to remove the superfans for the second launch of the iPhone in 2018, especially after a decade of launching the iPhone.

First in line waiting in pre-order at the Apple Store in Sydney, Rosa van de Pol bought a black iPhone XR for her husband.

But this was not a deterrent for those who came. The first on-line pre-order was 23-year-old paralegal Rosa van de Pol, who bought a black iPhone XR for her husband "mainly because of the high price."

"I think it was a good option, compared to other phones out there," she said. "The whole phone is the screen, so that's great."

But van de Pol admitted that, given the lack of queue, arriving at the store half an hour earlier "was a bit exaggerated".

The iPhone XR will be on sale Friday around the world. Stay tuned for the latest updates from CNET as new stores open.
