The iPhone XR moves back a corner to keep its price

The iPhone XR is the poor man's iPhone XR. In other words, if this poor man can save about 750 dollars at least. Needless to say, Apple had to make some concessions to bring down this price, from the choice of an LCD screen to the removal of life from the 3D Touch features. There was, however, another feature that the iPhone XR lacks, at least compared to its more expensive siblings. The performance of the LTE will be slower but do not worry, it will be like the LTE performance of last year.

This is mainly because the iPhone XR will use the same LTE modems of the iPhone X last year. It supports LTE Advanced and that's about it. On the other hand, the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max use, among other key words, a LTE support of gigabit class with 4 × 4 MIMO.

The Motley Fool proves this somewhat undisclosed difference through statements made by Broadcom, Apple's long-time chip provider. CEO Hock Tan notes that he has lost some of his business because Apple chose to use the same lower-performing LTE modem in the iPhone XR, thus extending the platform beyond A generation.

Tan, however, also implies that this situation will not last and that it will return to its usual pace next year. This suggests that next year's iPhone XR, if Apple continues on this path, will also catch up on upcoming XS and XS Max models.

Analysts like Ming-chi Kuo predict that the iPhone XR will make up the bulk of new iPhone shipments. However, it already faces obstacles even before its launch. The choice of LCD screens leads to low yields and delays of one month and could be tricky to overcome.
