As we head towards the release of the iPhone XS, the first speed tests are what we can expect from LTE speeds among the major operators. According to the results of SpeedSmart.net, the iPhone XS and XS Max will benefit from the improvement over the iPhone X last year.
Of the top three carriers – AT & T, Verizon and T-Mobile – AT & T seems to be the fastest with average download speeds of 72.24 Mbps. This figure compares with the average speeds recorded on iPhone X of 27.67 Mbps.
Verizon was the second fastest in this test, with average downloads of 62.20 Mbps, compared to 26.08 Mbps. T-Mobile comes in third with 59.92 Mbps on the iPhone XS, against 29.82 Mbps on the iPhone X.
As far as increases are concerned, the new iPhone XS and XS Max have an average download speed of 233% across all three networks.
Download speeds were slightly less impressive: the iPhone XS on T-Mobile recorded 19.35 Mbps, against 12.22 Mbps on iPhone X. Verizon and AT & T respectively increased by 10.92 Mbps and 10.28 Mbps to 16.10 Mbps.
The poll has been taken using the SpeedSmart Speed Test app on iPhone X, XS, XS Max between September 12th and 16th. Although they are early and surely limited because of the small sample size, the results show impressive gains.
The greatly improved data transfer statistics come from the new Gigabit class LTE with MIMO 4×4 and LAA technology. With the iPhone X, Apple used two FCPB LCP to feed 2×2 MIMO, while the iPhone 8 series used a single LCP module. The integration of MIMO 4×4 standards with the iPhone XS and XS Max offers significantly improved bandwidth capable of supporting higher throughput.
