Facebook has no shame when it comes to extracting features from the latest social media applications that threaten its dominance, and another example has happened. The company has just released the Lasso app for iOS and Android, and it is obviously designed to offer the same features as TikTok, a video application increasingly popular among teens.
The fame of TikTok is to allow users to record short videos on music, which has defeated the increase in the number of lip sync clips for young people today. The Facebook Lasso says that it's "easy for everyone to create and share short videos with fun effects," and includes a "massive music library." In addition to allowing lip sync and dance video on music like TikTok, Lasso users can, Vine Clips.
The standard functionality of social media applications also exists in Lasso, including the ability to track other users, apply hashtags to videos, and search by filter. Users log in with their Facebook or Instagram account and must grant access to their profile page, as well as their photos and videos. After creating a Lasso video, it can eventually be shared as a Facebook story, with a similar integration of Instagram stories in the near future.
It is interesting to note that Facebook released Lasso with little or no official announcement after revealing in October that the app was in development. All we really saw is a tweet from the product manager of the application. It is likely that Facebook was in a hurry to publish the app to follow the trend of TikTok, but there was already a lot of video content to see, suggesting that it was available early for a community of creators.
