The latest feature of Google Maps is only useful if you have the right kind of car – BGR

On Tuesday, Google unveiled a brand new Google Maps feature that should improve your overall navigation experience, but only if you use the vehicle type. Leaving, it's going "no matter what mode of transportation" used, including the electric car. That's why, in the future, Google Maps will display EV charging stations, which should be useful when planning long journeys that go well beyond your EV's battery life.

Since electric vehicles will only become more popular in the future, Google's focus on charging electric vehicles should be appreciated.

Google Maps will not automatically list EV charging locations on your route. In a blog post, Google explained that a quick search in "charging app" or "EV charging stations" in the app will show the nearest stations on the map. In addition to this, the results will include useful information such as the location of a station, the number and types of available ports and the charging speeds. Companies with charging stations will now have a link to information about them.

Additional details about the drivers, including photos, notes, reviews, and questions will also appear in the search results.

Google also notes that Google Maps supports the following types of charging stations around the world:

  • Global: Tesla, Chargepoint
  • United States: SemaConnect, EVgo, Blink
  • United Kingdom: Chargemaster, Pod Point
  • AU & NZ: Chargefox

This new feature will first be available worldwide on Android and iOS. Make sure the latest version of the app is installed on your devices. The desktop version of Google Maps will have it in the coming weeks.
