Asus launches a new mid-range Chromebook, the C423, featuring a 180-degree hinge and an optional touchscreen.
The new Asus 14-inch Chromebook follows HP's launch of the 14-inch 14-inch Chromebook X360 with a 14-hour battery life that can be configured with 8th-generation Intel Core i3 and i5 processors .
Asus offers the aluminum C423 Chromebook with a 14-inch FHD touch screen and an Intel Pentium quad-core N4200 processor, as well as a standard HD display powered by an Intel Celeron N3350 dual-core processor.
The touch screen option is provided with thin glasses on the sides that measure 5.8 mm.
Both models come with up to 8GB of SDRAM and 32GB or 64GB eMMC storage. There are also two Type A USB ports, two Type C USB ports with display and power support, a microSD slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an HD webcam.
The C423 Chromebook also supports 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0 Wi-Fi. Asus says that the device has an autonomy of 10 hours.
It measures 12.7 inches by 9 inches and measures 0.63 inches in thickness (322.6mm x 228mm x 16.1mm) and weighs between 1.2kg and 1.34kg, depending on specifications accurate.
Asus said it tested the 180-degree hinge of the device with 20,000 openings and closures to ensure its durability.
The company has not yet revealed the details of its pricing or availability, but its cost is likely lower than the $ 599 requested by HP for its new Chromebook.
