In the course of the month, Apple is expected to update its iPad Pro lineup with new models featuring Face ID biometric authentication and near-maskless displays. According to the latest rumors, the redesigned tablets could also be equipped with a new "magnetic connector" and support for an updated Apple pencil.
Echoing long-standing rumors about the next generation of iPad Pro, 9to5Mac, citing sources close to the subject, reports that the devices will actually drop the main button in favor of Face ID. Instead of replicating the "notch" aesthetic introduced with the iPhone X, the larger tablets will incorporate Apple's TrueDepth camera system into its bezel, a facet of the design that has already been reported several times.
The new devices will be expected to support 4K HDR output on monitors and external TVs via a built-in USB-C port. A new panel in the Settings application will control the resolution, brightness and HDR options, the report says. Previous rumors have suggested that Apple plans to replace Lightning with USB-C because it seems to support applications with higher bandwidth.
According to another article in the report, Apple is not only announcing the update of its smart connector to what the publication calls a "magnetic connector", but the transfer of the port to the back of the iPad. The new connector will supposedly support new accessories beyond the usual keyboard, although the report did not detail the expected additions.
Rumor has it that a new generation of Apple pencils will pair up close to an iPad. The solution is in the same vein as the AirPod or HomePod.
Sources have identified this year's model IDs as "iPad8.1", "iPad8.2", "iPad8.5" and "iPad8.6" for Wi-Fi only and "iPad8.1", "iPad8 , 4 "," iPad8, 7 "and" iPad8.8 "for cellphone compatible versions.
The report also confirms previous rumors about Face ID support in portrait and landscape modes.
