The new S60 sedan debuts as the first Volvo model built in the United States

The new Volvo S60 2019 is an important car for several reasons.

First, he is pursuing a much needed product overhaul for the Swedish automaker. After successfully launching a variety of SUVs in recent years, this new model is a sport sedan with the same styling theme as the other Volvo.

"It's the most dynamic car we have – good proportions, angled wheels and reduced overhangs – it's amazing," said Volvo Patrik Widerstand.

But more importantly, the S60 marks the beginning of Volvo car construction in the United States in a new state-of-the-art facility in Charleston, South Carolina. All Volvo S60s present in the country's exhibition halls will come from this factory.

"It's important to have factories in all regions – being in the US is a great thing, with a new plant, new people, and new suppliers." It's a challenge, but we're driving now and we are in production, "says Widerstand.

With the new $ 2 billion assembly plant, Volvo joins European manufacturers Mercedes-Benz and BMW in the construction of vehicles on American soil. Ultimately, the Volvo plant will produce more models and employ more than 4,000 people.

And the S60 is connected to Southern California: the exterior design was done in Volvo's styling studio in Camarillo.

In addition to conventional gasoline engines, the S60 will be launched from the start with an optional hybrid plug-in system. The Polestar version of the car does not really look very different from the classic S60, but it does offer a plug-in power of up to 21 km with varying modes for the hybrid system gasoline-electric.

Like most automakers, Volvo is relying on electric power to meet its fuel consumption and carbon emissions targets.

"We will have a fully electric system, a plug-in hybrid and a light hybrid, so all of our new cars will be electrified in one way or another," said Widerstand.

This new Volvo is a global car in the true sense of the word. It comes from a Swedish company that has interests via China, was designed in the state of Golden and is built in the state of Palmetto.
