The Nintendo switch is really the console for everyone

I did not hate the Switch when I saw it last year, but after spending a whole day chasing it in the stores, I could easily say that it was not exceptional enough to justify camping or to pay Craigslist scalpers. A year later, I maintain this feeling, but I do not have to stand in line anymore. I can stop in any store and get one, hassle free, for $ 300. Everybody can. Which is great, because despite the gamer fans, the Nintendo Switch is the most suitable console for everyone.

This is not shocking considering the pedigree of Nintendo. He has been very successful in building universal calling systems. My best friend, who has never heard of Unexplored, still speaks affectionately Mario Kart on the SNES, and even my mother did a few laps in Wii Tennis. But the Switch is exceptional because it balances its appeal for newcomers and nerds so easily.

A gadget nerd like me could find a lot of faults with the switch. Shall we enumerate them? It's not as portable as a 3DS or my modded Game Boy Advance – its big screen and powerful and powerful Nvidia Tegra processor means it's not small enough for a pocket, nor durable enough for marathon game sessions disconnected. I am lucky to have 5 or 6 hours of exchange before looking for a point of sale. And usually I only have about four.

It is also not graphically able to work like my PS4 Pro or Xbox One X. It is only capable of 1080p resolution, not 4K or HDR. So even the pretty games will not be as beautiful as they could on a more powerful system.

But the real killer is the presentation itself, which is almost obscene in its lack of appeal. Of course, the switch costs only $ 300, but an Amazon Fire tablet is one-third of that price and offers better display. The colors simply do not display on the switch. They are washed and blacks are never black enough. The real black would be the shade of black found on the bezel, compared to the dark gray that appears on the switch display. Nintendo also chose to cover the 6.2-inch plastic screen instead of glass. This means that it is more resistant to falls, but pushing it into my bag always causes gouges on its surface, and the plastic, combined with the only adequate display, makes the switch extremely cheap.

As does this slight excuse for a crutch in the back. I even updated my case (mainly for aesthetic reasons), and the crutch of the new case was just as useless as the original, which makes the Switch as exciting as a portable console. Yes I can take it to the bar and milk virtual cows or play Mario Kart with friends, but an error and the Switch will switch. Then, the battery is discharged, I put the controllers in place and throws them in my purse, hoping that my keys do not scratch it anymore.

But let me say it: my complaints are the complaints of a nerdy gadget, and even then, they are thorny. What matters in the Switch is that despite these complaints, it is still a perfectly reasonable portable and domestic console. You will have problems, but none of them will be an obstacle, because the ingenuity of the system and the games available improve it.

The controllers are very smart, they slide when you need two or have a game that requires motion control, and then move back to the sides of the switch when you want to use it as a huge portable console. There is just a lot of technology stuck in the switch controller, which adds to the wonder of its hybrid claim. Even if I am frustrated by the switch controllers, who have trouble re-inserting them or being annoyed by the lack of D-pad, I can not deny that they serve their goals extremely well. The only time they really fail is when playing traditional games on TV. Then I turned to the Pro controller at $ 50 and was a little annoyed by the fact that I had to drop $ 50 (a total of $ 350) for an experiment that the PS4 gives me for 300 $.

But I do not need the Pro controller. I can survive without it, and depending on your playing preferences, you might as well do without it. Spend all your money on the remarkable game library of the Switch.

This is what really sets the Switch apart and allows it to be a more perfect system for everyone. For non-gamers, it offers a more than enough taste of the game in a reasonably affordable package. It's not perfect, but it's the best solution if you're on the market for one system. Yet for players like me, it's interesting because there are masterpieces like Breath of nature, good games, like Octopath Traveler, and some games that I could never get otherwise in a portable scenario, like Stardew Valley or Dead cells.

When I really want a perfect console experience, I can reach my Game Boy or my PS4, but when I want to take a break and just want to play a fun game, whether on a plane or with friends, I looking to get, and if I had to tell people to buy just a system that the switch would be my choice. It's not perfect, but it's Moxie's willingness to do something different, and the things she does well make it work as an ambassador for people who might be intimidated by the world of hardcore nerds. If you're ready to dive your toes into games or just want to own a system, the Nintendo Switch is the one you should buy.
