The Nissan and Italdesign team creates a prototype "GT-R without limits"

Here's an unexpected but welcome addition to the weekend: Nissan and Italdesign have teamed up to create a special GT-R edition. First collaboration between the Japanese automaker and the Italian design house, the GT-R50 is a custom prototype celebrating the 50th anniversary of Italdesign and the GT-R. The Nissan GT-R50 has the appearance of a brand new, ground-breaking concept car being previewed ahead of a major auto show, perhaps a look at an upcoming GT-R generation. However, it's actually a 2018 GT-R Nismo production at the heart, all wrapped up in a sleek new wardrobe. Nissan's design teams in America and Europe have written inside and out while Italdesign has designed and built the prototype.

The GT-R350 is immediately recognizable to GT-R production thanks to the gold grille and long LED headlamps altering its facial DNA. The prototype also benefits from a revised front bumper hood.

Going back, the GT-R50 acquires a more racy profile, as the roofline has been lowered by a pressure of over 54 mm. The roof itself has a shallow channel in the middle, lending a more defined appearance. The air vents "samurai blade" behind the front wheel arches have been extended and carved in gold.

Seems like the GT-R50 separates from the common GT-R, the glistening "gray fluid kinetic" bodywork of the flanks and roof works as a kind of shiny hull. Bodywork "sigma gold energetic" around the tiny windshield and carved rear bumper. This gold field is further punctuated by the prominent adjustable rear spoiler. The roofline also extends further, in an almost fastback style, and the taillights enjoy a more three-dimensional appearance, appearing as two pairs of rings floating at the top of one's roof. sea ​​of ​​gold.

Even the regular Nismo powertrain would not be enough for this radical birthday car, so Nismo pulled a page from the GT3 Playbook, increasing production of the 3.8-liter V6 engine to 710 hp and 575 lb. ft. Engine mods include the addition of GT3-spec dual-flow turbochargers, supercharged intercoolers, higher-speed fuel injectors, and a crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods and robust bearings. The six-speed dual-clutch transmission has also been enhanced to handle all this production.

Nismo also improved the performance suspension system around a continuously adjustable Bilstein DampTronic I damping system. The GT-R50 rolls on 21-inch rims rolled in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires measuring 255/35 R21 at the front and 285/30 R21 at the rear. The bright red calipers of the Brembo braking system wink at the spectators from inside these wheels.

The performance-oriented cockpit uses a mix of Alcantara and Italian leather on the seats and two different carbon fiber finishes around the dashboard, console and doors. Delicate gold accents echo the gold trim on the outside. A custom Alcantara steering wheel with carbon fiber hub and spokes finishes it all.
