OnePlus has confirmed that its next 2018 smartphone, the OnePlus 6T, will feature an integrated fingerprint sensor. The company has dubbed its implementation of "Screen Unlock" technology, according to CNET. "We unlock our phones several times a day, and unlocking the screen reduces the number of steps to complete the action. By adding this feature to other unlocking display options, such as Face Unlock, users will have the option to unlock the screen in the most efficient way for them.
Last week, alleged packages for the OnePlus 6T were leaked, which seems to confirm that the feature was on the way. The box also clearly indicates that the 6T will be very close to the Oppo F9, so that the notch of the OnePlus 6 will be significantly reduced. According to rumors, T-Mobile will sell the OnePlus 6T in the United States, marking the first major deal with the company in the country.
The slogan of the upcoming phone is apparently "unlock speed". To authenticate your print successfully, the screen illuminates a section where you put your finger, then the phone reads your fingerprint under the screen; that is why this technology is only viable on OLED smartphones. LCD screens are not thin enough. The addition of all the necessary components allowed the 6T to be 0.45 mm thicker than the OnePlus 6. CNET report.
We have already seen fingerprint detectors on other smartphones this year from companies such as Vivo. The only disadvantage compared to a dedicated traditional scanner is the speed; the display method is a little slower than the fingerprint sensors you'll find on Samsung, Google Pixel and other phones – including this year's OnePlus 6. (OnePlus confirmed that the rear fingerprint sensor is moving away in favor of the on-screen approach).
OnePlus hoped to include fingerprint scanning on the OnePlus 5T. But "the technology was not mature enough to provide a good user experience," the company said. CNET.
