The Pixel 3 XL notch can be hidden with the software option

We're already big fans of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, but we can not afford to ignore some of Google's design choices. The most polarizing aspect of Pixel 3 XL is its huge gash, and many people do not support it. Fortunately, Google apparently adds an option to hide the Pixel 3 XL slot.

The best gifts for Android users

Google has answered many Pixel 3 questions on its official Twitter account "Made By Google", many of which revolve around the Pixel 3 XL slot. According to a tweetOwners of Pixel 3 XL will be able to hide the notch using software, like many other manufacturers.

In previous leaks and practical publications about the Pixel 3 XL, many people wondered if Google would make this option available or not. Some applications, such as the camera, hide the notch with a black bar, but it was unclear if a system-wide option would be available. According to Google's tweet, this seems to be the case.

However, this feature is not yet very accessible to the user. Instead, the option is always buried in the developer's options. As we've seen during our device activities, it's the same place that users were able to simulate a notch in preview versions of Pie.

In its current state, this "feature" actually allows users to completely hide the status bar, as shown below. The time and status icons appear on the screen, leaving the parts around the notch as a kind of artificial telescope. Hopefully Google can improve this with updates. Sadly, it does not seem that they do it. Shame.
