We know so much about the new Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phones that some people are starting to think it's a trick. Over the past few weeks, a small group of YouTubers has created a story that essentially consists of Google:
- a) deliberate leakage of prototypes of Pixel phones;
- b) secretly developing a phone without a bezel without a notch called Pixel Ultra; and
- c) drop cautious cues that only informed people would be smart enough to catch.
It's a trick for any business, not to mention the biggest and most scrupulous companies in the world. So how did such a crazy theory begin? And is there a fragment that is credible? I decided to investigate.
Pixel Conspiracy 3: how did it begin
Like most Internet-based plot theories, it started with a viral video. On August 5, Jon Prosser posted a video titled "GOOGLE FAKED ALL PIXEL 3 LEAKS AND US BAMBOO!" (Italics of him), which traced the "absolutely nonsense" theory that the Pixel 3 was fleeing. We saw on the internet that all were part of a fake leader developed by Google.
In the video, he examines EA Sports Madden public, the beta version of Android and the keynote of last year assuming there could be a third phone "Pixel Ultra" in the works we had not seen yet, without guts and barely glasses . He has since released several follow-up videos that all evoke the same theory: Google deliberately discloses everything related to the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL because there is a third phone even better.
Pixel Conspiracy 3: How to Spread
Even Prosser said we should take his theory with a grain of salt, but this being the Internet, that did not stop him from spreading. The Front Page Tech video was quickly followed by a video of Mr. Brandon Lee on his YouTube channel This is Tech Today that tried to push the plot a step further with real evidence.
As Lee told me in an interview: "Someone left a comment on one of my videos stating that an advertisement was being filmed outside." from his apartment for Google. He stopped and saw a phone he believed in, and still believes, was a new phone with a thin bezel. This new phone was different from what we had all seen in Pixel 3 XL leaks. He sent them to me late at night and when I analyzed the photos at the time, they looked like a new camera.
Once the video was posted, Lee quickly realized that this was probably not the case. "In just an hour or so, others began to analyze it and found that there was a large telescope around the phone and concluded that it was a Pixel 2 XL. Once I saw these pictures and analyzes, I saw the same thing that they saw. What I thought I made a video and what I realized then was not aligned.
Although the video received about 9,000 views per hour, a pace Lee had never experienced before, he quickly shot the video and published a new one in which he apologized and explained his thoughts. But that did not detract from the interest of the Pixel Ultra: Lee's video tracking is the most watched so far, with nearly 100,000 views and over 500 comments.
Conspiracy Pixel 3: Google involves
Although it seemed like the Pixel Ultra was dead, it came back strong last week.
