Since its inception more than 20 years ago, the Electronic Entertainment Expo is traditionally the biggest gaming event of the year. The major players in the industry, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, have all had a regular presence at the show, but it seems that Sony will not be part of the event next year.
ESA – the company that organizes E3 – has released the first details of E3 2019, and Sony will not be present. The publisher is notably missing from the list of companies that have already engaged in the event, among which are its biggest console competitors, Microsoft and Nintendo, as well as other major publishers such as Take. -Two, Ubisoft, Activision, etc.
Sony has confirmed its intention not to participate in the E3 next year. This will be the first time Sony has chosen to not participate in E3 since entering the video game industry in the mid-1990s, although other companies have also begun to re-evaluate their performance at the time. # 39; E3 in recent years. Microsoft has notably transferred almost all of its off-site presence to the Microsoft Theater for E3 2018, with only Mixer present at the show, while Nintendo has waived live press conferences in favor of pre-recorded video presentations these last years. The announcement made by ESA for E3 2019 also included positive remarks from Microsoft and Nintendo.
"The E3 is an exceptional opportunity for us to share new games and experiences with fans and business partners from around the world," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "Every year we discuss the best way for us to take advantage of the upcoming E3 show to make people smile."
"The E3 is an incredible platform for showcasing the dynamism and creativity of the video game industry," said Xbox boss Phil Spencer. "ESA continues to extend the reach of the event to fans and industry, present and online, and we look forward to what awaits us at E3 2019."
Despite the withdrawal of E3 from next year, Sony does not seem to have broken ties with ESA. The company is still listed as a member on the ESA website. So she still pays the dues and supports the organization in this way.
The E3 2019 is not the only major event that Sony ignores. The company has recently confirmed that it will not hold its annual PlayStation Experience this year. "We will not have it in the US this year," Shawn Layden, head of international studios, told the PlayStation Blogcast. "Now that Spider-Man is on the doorstep, we're looking at 2019 games like Dreams and Days Gone, but we would not have enough to bring all North Americans together for this event. While video game companies are rethinking their traditional approach to E3, the show remains a major event. The E3 2019 will take place from June 11th to 13th.
