For some time, PlayStation fans have been wondering what the PlayStation Experience of 2018, the annual PlayStation fan event, is, since Sony has not announced a date yet. Today, Shawn Layden, head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, explained that this would not happen this year.
"For 2018, I know this is going to be a disappointment for some people, but we decided not to hold PlayStation Experience this year," Layden said in the latest episode of the PlayStation Blogcast. The executive noted that many of society's big games, such as Spider Man, published this year, and when he arrived at 2019, Layden only mentioned Past days and dreams, two games that have already been shown a lot and are about to come out.
"We would not have enough space to bring people to a place in North America to attend this event," he said. "We do not want to set very high expectations and not deliver them."

The news comes days after Microsoft announced it will hold its Xbox-centric event, X018, in Mexico City on Nov. 10, alongside its fourth annual FanFest.
The PlayStation Experience, called PSX for short, takes place annually in North America in the last four years, starting in 2014 with the 20th anniversary of the PS1. It usually includes a short presentation with new game ads and movie trailers. The fact that there is no event this year seems to imply that Sony does not currently have big plans ahead.
Even last year's PSX was a relatively quiet affair, with no big news. The only information that PS4 owners were eagerly waiting for was PSN name changes. Currently, the service still does not allow users to change their handles, no matter how ridiculous or offensive they are. At PSX 2017, Greg Miller of Kinda Funny Games pressed Layden on the issue in a live interview.
Layden would not commit, but he covered enough to give fans hope. "Let me say so: I hope we'll see events happen so you do not have to ask me the following question at the PSX," he said.
It looks like he's had his wish.
