The Plex Cloud service will be closed on November 30

Plex has decided to close its cloud server option due to persistent technical difficulties, the company said. This is a disappointing news for users who have frequently requested a cloud option, which allows subscribers to use a cloud storage account filled with content rather than a local drive.

Plex Cloud was a great idea, highlighting the company's desire to give users what they wanted. Unfortunately, the functionality was also hampered by problems that Plex struggled to overcome; As a result, Plex Cloud will be closed on November 30, according to the Plex Cloud FAQ page.

The news is not terribly surprising. In February, Plex disabled the ability to create new servers for all new Plex Cloud users. This decision was due to ongoing work on issues such as performance and quality issues. In its last update, Plex explained:

We remain at a high level and, unfortunately, after much investigation and thought, we have not found a solution that can provide a first-class Plex experience for Plex Cloud users at a reasonable cost. While we are disappointed with the impact this will have on our lucky cloud users, the end of support will allow us to focus on improving core functionality, adding new features and new ones we can all rely on and enjoy.

Plex Cloud was only available to Plex Pass customers, who initially launched with only Amazon Drive support, then added Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox. Of course, other Plex features will remain, and anyone can create their own Plex server using video and audio content stored on a local drive, such as a NAS device or an external hard drive / SSD.
