The Porsche Panamera range has acquired a mid-range model bearing the GTS emblem. This is the driver-oriented variant that we have been waiting for since the global launch of the second-generation Panamera in 2017. And judging by the specifications, it seems like it was worth the wait.
Porsche applies the GTS treatment to the Panamera sedan and only to the more spacious version of Sport Turismo. Both body styles receive the same engine. It's a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 producing 453 horsepower between 6,000 and 6,500 rpm and 457 lb-ft of torque from 1,800 to 4,500 rpm. These figures represent respective increases of 13 and 73, compared to those recorded by the naturally aspirated V8 that fitted the latest generation of Panamera GTS. The eight-cylinder turns all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic clutch transmission.
Both variants of the GTS perform the benchmark sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. The sedan continues up to 181 mph, while the car calls it at 179 mph. Anyway, you will need a very long stretch of tarmac and the courage to see these numbers appear on the speedometer. If you get there, be aware that larger brakes are hiding behind the wheels to bring you to more reasonable speeds at any time.
GTS is not entirely focused on straight line speed. Although heavy, it must be a balanced angle sculptor who behaves like a more agile car. Porsche has chosen the GTS to inaugurate a head-up display with several configuration options. It is a high-resolution color unit that the driver can program to display different information, such as speed and navigation directions. The company promises that the head-up display will extend to the entire Panamera range, from the base model to the flagship Turbo S E-Hybrid model, but will not detail the configuration options available before launching the market.
