SEGA would have preserved a complete Shenmue remake for the HD reissues that took place earlier this year.
Eurogamer's digital foundry has managed to get its hands on game sequences from the Shenmue remake that was canceled by SEGA last year. For now, there is no indication why it was canceled, but the likelihood of it being due to budgets is high.
The video, which you can see below, is really beautiful. A lot better than the right Dreamcast ports that were launched on PS4 in August. In our review, one of our main complaints was the look and performance of the game, but watching the video of the remake, it is likely that these complaints would not have existed because they seemed much more refined.
According to Digital Foundry, the remake would have featured high-resolution textures, enhanced character models, lighting, and shadows to enhance the game's appearance.
That being said, the Shenmue reissues were aimed primarily at allowing players to catch up on the series before Shenmue 3, which should be launched in August 2019.
