We told you that iOS 12 is much faster than iOS 11 in the early days of iOS 12 beta 1. Apple has promised WWDC that the main focus of iOS 12 was the performance, and that from the first version of developer. Now that the final version of iOS 12 is available for everyone, former iPhone users may be wondering if they need to update their phone or wait. The answer is definitely yes. iOS 12 is much better than iOS 11 and the following speed test proves it.
Youtube channel ToutApplePro, which performs such speed tests on a regular basis, compared iOS 12 to iOS 11.4.1 on all iPhones compatible with the new version of iOS – the iPhone 5s to the iPhone X.
As you'll see in the video at the end of this article, whether it's start times, tests, animations, loading apps (camera and keyboard included) or touch / face ID, iOS 12 is significantly faster. Even the battery life is slightly better on iOS 12, explains the video, even though it does not provide any numbers to back up the claim.
We have already seen similar speed tests from other sources, including real users, who came to the same conclusion. iOS 12 improves the performance of all iOS devices, including older models.
If you have a relatively new iOS device, the speed gains are still noticeable, but they are less important than the old iPhone and iPad. In previous years, we often had problems with older gadgets running Apple's latest version of Apple, and we often advise you to upgrade to the previous version of iOS or wait for Apple to fix various bugs.
But with iOS 12, this is no longer the case. You could easily run the public beta of iOS 12 on an old iPhone or iPad. And Apple will still improve it as it gets closer to the first major update of iOS 12, iOS 12.1, which is already available in beta.
