The Spotify app gets a personalized search, a radio of endless artists, more

The iOS Spotify app has been updated to make reading the music you like faster and easier.

The first step is a simplified navigation, with three clear tabs.

Subscribers can get excellent recommendations on Home, discover something new with Searchand access favorite songs, artists, playlists and podcasts from Your Library

The search now offers a quick way to search in your favorite genres. When you press the Find button, you still get the usual search bar at the top, but you now have buttons to search your own Top Genres.

But perhaps the most important change brought to the Spotify application is what the company calls Endless Artist Radio.

If a subscriber wants an excellent playlist based on one of his favorite musicians or songs, he can simply search for it and start listening to one of Artist Radio's new playlists. These offer an infinite flow of listening personalized according to the musical tastes of the listener. They are updated regularly to keep things fresh. Plus, they are even downloadable and available to play offline.

Together, Spotify and Apple Music dominate the music streaming industry, with more than 50 million subscribers in the United States alone.

The redesign will put more pressure on Apple Music to continue working on its own playlists. Although I find his recommendations excellent, there is not enough on a daily basis and I agree with my colleague Bradley that the application needs to be more context-sensitive in the Spotify application.

One of the things I've always liked about Spotify is the way it always has recommendations with context. On Monday morning, he shows me a reading list to help me move.

One of the reasons I occasionally install Spotify is that Apple Music still feels a bit outdated with recommendations. The tab for you only recommends me four rows further down the list. Even then, they are never as effective as Spotify's advice.

While Spotify is showing me playlists to motivate me on a Monday morning, Apple's music recommends Pure Throwback. 'For you' must become smarter [and] have more context.
